About the Cattery.

Efeuenborg is a small cattery placed in the middle of Sjælland near the town of Hvalsø.

About us
We are a family of 4 people (husband, wife and our 2 young sons) living in a large house, with our 2 bengal “girls”.
We have had Bengal cats since January 2002, when I bought our first bengal (Cancan) from Annette at Trollspotting Bengals. Cancan was 7 months of age when she moved in with us.
Currently (2008), we have one queen Efeuenborgs Persephone, and one “upcoming queen” Efeuenborgs Sakura.

Some aspects of breeding
At Efeuenborg cat welfare is of great importance to us, and one of our greatest goals is to combine a responsible breeding with a loving and respectful care for our cats.

Prometheus 2004

With an understanding and certified knowledge of the cats’ natural behaviour, we wish to give our cats a close and safe introduction to human contact, so they grow up being fond of human companionship. This happens primarily through play with both kittens and adult cats and of course through a daily contact.
The well being of our cats is top priority, and this means that we pay attention to every cat, every day. A cats temperament towards humans is linked to the amount of time spent with them, so it is very important that the cats are a natural part of the family.

About kitten adoption
Occasionally we will have kittens up for adoption.
We are not an “industrial kitten mill”, therefore it is not our priority to breed as many kittens as possible.
Our politic is that breeding of cats should be arranged only after thorough thought and research.
Because of it’s genetic backround, limited avaliability (In Denmark) and it’s leopard like appearance, the bengal breed is quite popular at the moment.
This popularity and the thought of a possible “quick profit”, unfortunatly has a tendency to bring “wrong” people into cat breeding, worldwide. And sadly these are people who breed without concidering any breeding goals, without thinking about the kittens future and theyre queens/studs health.
Therefore it our advice that people interested in a Bengal kitten, should do some research before buying a kitten.

We love our cats and beleive that a breeder should have the time to learn about the behaviour and type of every kitten.
To “produce” kittens without learning to know theyre individual personalities is a loss to both the breeder and the person whome wishes to adopt the kitten. Gaining knowledge about the kitten and it’s interaction with siblings and other cats makes it easier to “match” a kitten to a specific family.

It is also important for us to make sure that only the best lines are used in our breeding program and we would therefore rather wait for the right male, than proceed with a breeding program that isn’t optimal.

This means that we can not promise that we have kittens every year.
But we guarentee that kittens that are born here are brought up ind the best surroundings, have great temperaments and are sent from home with a veterenarian health guarantee, sales contract and that they are at least 12 weeks of age.
